Bio

Akinwale Coker started his working career as a Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ibadan in 1991 and rose to Professorship in 2010. He was the first Alumnus Head of Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Ibadan from August 2014 - July 2018. He was a Visiting Scholar to the School of Engineering and Built Environment, University of Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton, UK in 2007 and later served as a Ph.D. Research Advisor from 2012 till 2017 at the same university. He served as a Visiting Professor in 2017 at the Faculty of Environment and Technology, the University of West of England, Bristol. Akinwale has been from 2014 till date, an Affiliate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA and a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Urban and Rural Research, Alabama A&M University, Alabama, USA. Professor Coker has concentrated his research works on Environmental and Biomedical Engineering. To date, he has successfully supervised 10 Ph.D. Theses, 57 M.Sc. and 81 B.Sc. projects. He has to his credit four patents, and over ninety publications in peer-reviewed journals, books and refereed conference proceedings. Currently, he serves the University of Ibadan as Site Principal Investigator of some Biomedical Engineering International Grants co-awarded to UI and some Universities in US, Europe and Africa. He has presented several papers in international conferences in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Akinwale is a member of several professional societies in Nigeria and overseas (Nigeria Society of Engineers, Nigeria Institute of Environmental Engineers and The American Society for Engineering Education, Biomedical Engineering Society, just to mention a few). He is the Director of the Nigerian Awareness and Action for Environmental Health (NINAAFEH), an NGO devoted to Environmental Sustainability.
