Ineffective sterilization of surgical tools in low resource settings

Philippa Makobore indicated 03.09.2018

Most autoclaves in low resource countries are electrically powered and are high on power consumption. In rural health facilities the standard practice for sterilization of surgical tools is boiling which does not destroy all pathogens and could lead to cross infection of patients. With intermittent to no power supply in several rural health facilities there is a need for alternative solutions to effectively sterilize surgical tools.
