Project description

The idea is to design a stretcher to carry safely patients affected by infectious diseases like Sars-Cov-2 in an isolated and sterile environment, so that the risks for medical workers in contact with the patient and the device are minimal. Based on the state of the art, we want to focus on three specific components of the device, in particular the bed, the cover and the base, which in our opinion are the most critical elements of this project.

First of all, we need to establish how the device can be defined, its use and its classification, followed by its composition and description. The strecher is composed of 5 fundamental components:

  1. the base, used to transport and sustain the stretcher;
  2. the cover, which encloses the patient inside the device and allows the medical operators to have access to the patient itself in a sterile and safe way;
  3. the bed on which the patient is placed;
  4. the ventilation system, important for the control of the air and the roght pressure inside the closed stretcher;
  5. the filtering HEPA system, which purifies the air and cooperates with the ventilation system so to ensure the comfort and safety of the patient.

Then, we have to select the materials that can be used and are optimal to generate these components. This step will be followed by a CAD representation of the device and its parts, while also focusing on the standards necessary to evaluate its safety, the possible risks and how to avert them.

Finally, we will add the electronic circuitry, which, through an ArduINO algorithm, will be able to monitor some vitals of both the patient and the strecther, to alarm the medical staff in case of malfunctioning and to ensure the correct environment inside the device.
