Smart walking stick is an improved version of the white cane used by the visually impaired. This device uses a feedback system to help detect obstacles. Ultrasonic sensors and proximity sensors are used in combination to provide a better angular coverage. The ultrasonic sensors detect obstacles close to the ground while the PIR sensor detects overhead obstacles. A motor and buzzer provides feedback when an obstacle is detected. The design of the frame is detachable and in stent form. This makes the stick light as well as small enough to fit in a bag when detached.
