Bio
Gabriele Maria Fortunato is a PhD student at Research Centre E. Piaggio and Dept. of Ingegneria dell'Informazione (University of Pisa, Italy). He received the Bachelor and Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering from University of Pisa, Italy, in 2015 and 2018, respectively. During his master thesis he spent 3 months at AO Foundation Research Institute (Davos, Switzerland) working on an electrical stimulation platform for muscle tissue regeneration. His research activity is currently focused on the investigation of different applications of bioprinting, at the core of his PhD project about the design of a robotic biofabrication platform for in situ bioprinting. His interests in this field range from CAD design to manufacturing technology and material characterization. Another main topic of his research is about additive manufacturing techniques and their combination (extrusion-based 3D printing, ink-jet printing, electrospinning) with the aim of fabricating multiscale and multimaterial scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. He is also involved in the development of open source medical devices. He contributed to the development of several devices within the European project UBORA (GA 731053, 2017-2019) and in this context he also participated to the design school held in Nairobi (Kenya) in December 2017.
