Artificial Heart Valves

Intended users

Artificial heart valves are primarily intended for patients with severe heart valve disease. This can include conditions such as:

  • Aortic stenosis: Narrowing of the aortic valve, which can lead to heart failure.
  • Aortic regurgitation: Leaky aortic valve, allowing blood to flow backwards.
  • Mitral stenosis: Narrowing of the mitral valve, which can lead to heart failure.
  • Mitral regurgitation: Leaky mitral valve, allowing blood to flow backwards.
  • Tricuspid stenosis: Narrowing of the tricuspid valve, which can lead to heart failure.
  • Tricuspid regurgitation: Leaky tricuspid valve, allowing blood to flow backwards.

Target Populations:

  • Adults: The majority of artificial heart valve recipients are adults.
  • Children and adolescents: In some cases, children and adolescents may require artificial heart valves due to congenital heart defects or other conditions.
