The curtains will be soundproofed and will have an infection control mechanism on the curtain and at the bottom part to ensure that it does not become a means of spreading infections in the hospital.
- The soundproof curtains are composed of a 60-rigid polyurethane foam (RPF) mixed with shredded recycled textiles, compressed in thick fabrics made up of polypropylene fibres (4mm).
- The soundproof curtain is made up of at least a 24 oz. fabric weight. It is also highly porous. These many tiny pores will act as sound traps by capturing the energy and turning it into heat.
- The curtains will run from the ceiling to the floors for effective soundproofing. Rail wheels fitted at the top and bottom to hold and propagate the curtain.
- Silver ions are embedded in the curtain material to give it antimicrobial properties.
- The soundproof curtain will be zipped with a mackintosh fabric to ease infection control.
- Our prototype is shown below:
- In our prototype, the curtain outer fabric represents the polypropylene fabric, while the sound-absorbing foam represents the 60-rigid polyurethane foam.
