Wearable Device for Breast Self-Examination: Palpreast

Clinical needs

Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in women worldwide, and it is one of the most frequent causes of cancer death in women. It is estimated that worldwide 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during her life (Figure 1) ; in Italy, 50000 new cases are discovered each year . Early detection and diagnosis are the keys to survive this fatal disease, for reducing significantly the mortality. The BSE is the first method to detect early breast cancer, it is safe, self and simple. The women palp the breast with the pads of the finger to find lumps, either superficial or deeper in tissue. This practice is not carried by women because they are not confidence on their own ability to detect lump.
